Timeline takes a broad view of women throughout Philadelphia's layered history. Laurel Hill Mansion, built in 1767, has evolved in structure and purpose through the colonial era and beyond.
Jessica’s piece I Am Woman explores the enduring resilience of women across their many roles—as seamstresses, caretakers, and protectors in both public and private spheres. Though historically undervalued compared to men, women have remained strong and stable, beautiful and poised.
The sphere serves as a symbol of womanhood—representing life itself, the essence of being a woman. The doilies evoke the intricate threads women have woven through society, binding it together. The colors speak to the diversity of women, each shade reflecting a different story, heritage, and strength.
